The Early History of the High Speed Direct Injection Diesel Engine

A first hand account of the engineers who developed the first high-speed direct injection diesel engine for the Ford Motor Company Transit Van series in 1984/5. The engine had a fully mechanical injection pump developed with Britsh supplier Lucas CAV. This is a great example of innovative British automotive engineering and of overcoming the internal politics and resistance to solving complex challenges in the days before electronic control.
